Origin is delivering the world’s first GPS-based lane-level tolling system.
Origin evolved from a small group of passionate entrepreneurs’ belief that GPS positioning and wireless communications could transform the tolling industry as it exists today. In 2006 with the support of Monitor Ventures, Dr. Greg Petrisor and Ryan Perdue approached Rockwell Collins and Tele Atlas to acquire licenses to requisite enabling technologies. Dr. Larry Sweeney, then with Tele Atlas, joined the team in 2006 and jointly the small team applied to participate in the State of California’s Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) testbed. Later that year, Origin was selected by the State of California as the only private commercial partner to demonstrate next generation tolling and safety applications using GPS positioning and wireless communications.
In 2007 the team enlisted veteran CEO Bruce Deer as CEO of Origin. Together, the team refined the business model and began a lengthy campaign to gain greater financial backing based on the market opportunity and promising new technologies. The team secured angel funding in 2007 from private and institutional investors and began building out the management team with the addition of Michael Sheffield as VP Engineering Services. The team is currently raising Series A funds and commencing product development of WiPass™.
